Trampoline & Tumbling
Trampoline & Tumbling is one of the newer sports in USA Gymnastics. The T&T program entered USA Gymnastics and the Olympics in 2000 but has been around as a World Championship sport for a long time. Just like womens artistic, T&T has four competitive events: Individual Trampoline, Synchronized Trampoline, Double Mini, and Power Tumbling. As of now Individual Trampoline is the only Olympic event but Synchronized Trampoline, and Tumbling are expected to follow shortly. Unlike Artistic Gymnastics, athletes do not have to do all events. There is no all around competition, and most high level elite athletes will end up specializing in one or two events. Because the athletes can specialize on specific events, the skills they can do are amazing, which is why T&T has been nicknamed the extreme sport of the Gymnastics Program. Trampoline & Tumbling are the ultimate teaching tools for body awareness, muscular control, and overall fitness.

Trampoline:

Trampoline is an Olympic sport in gymnastics and offers athletes the ability to learn many high flying acrobatic maneuvers that could not be done in artistic gymnastics. The trampolines that the athletes compete on are in the shape of a 7x14 rectangle. Over the years the trampolines have become more and more advanced giving the competitors the ability to go higher and do more difficult maneuvers.
Competitors today will get as high as 30 feet above the ground and perform multiple twisting and flipping somersaults throughout their routine. A trampoline routine is made up of 10 consecutive skills. Athletes are not allowed to repeat skills and judges will be watching for the athletes to maintain height, control, and strong body positions. Synchronized trampoline is done the same way except there will be two athletes on separate trampolines; the two athletes perform the same routine on separate trampolines trying to keep perfect synchronicity. High level routines will consist of multiple triple somersaults and double somersaults with triple twists.
Power Tumbling:

Double Mini:

Double Mini is a combination of vault and trampoline. It is a small two level trampoline that athletes jump onto then off of. The athlete starts from a run, jumps onto the double mini, performs one skill that lands back on the double mini, then one more skill off the mini onto a landing mat. This apparatus is scored much like the vault; judges look for power, amplitude, difficulty, and stuck landings. At the highest level you will see competitors do passes with two triple somersaults, and getting nearly 20 feet off the ground!
